Reasons For Continuous Cough And Cold
Have you been coughing since weeks? Have you been irritated by this, not to mention the people around you who are annoyed by this habit of yours? Have you ever tried to find out the actual reason for continuous cough and cold?
This condition may not only occur due to a weather change or cold. There can be some serious reasons behind it as well. So, you should make sure you consult a practitioner at the earliest in order to get the right treatment.

So, what are the reasons for prolonged cough and cold? If you are suffering from this, make sure you take utmost care of yourself and not ignore the problem, as it may be a symptom of an underlying cause as well.
You may suffer from stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, sneezing and shortness of breath, rarely coughing with blood, sour taste in your mouth, heartburn, etc.

1. Oversensitive Airways:
You may often suffer from a prolonged cough and cold session after flu. This is quite common, as the virus of the flu would have left the air passage swollen and oversensitive. So, difficulty in breathing or cough may sustain for a few days after the virus is eliminated.

2. Postnasal Drip:
If the sinus or nose produces an excessive amount of mucus, it starts to drip at the back of your throat and makes you cough constantly. This situation is also known as upper airway cough syndrome (UACS).

3. Asthma:
This is one of the most common reasons for constant coughing. Due to this lung disease, the airways in your lungs get swollen and inflamed. Along with cough, it causes chest stiffness, wheezing and shortness of breath. Asthma cough can keep you awake the whole night.

4. GERD:
Chronic coughing can happen when the stomach acid flows back to the tube that connects your stomach with your throat. This acid reflux is known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Continuous coughing is one of the most important symptoms of acid reflux.

5. Obstructive Sleep Apnoea:
One of the most important reasons for prolonged cough and cold is this. Due to sleep apnoea, you not only suffer from insomnia, but also from sudden choking or gasping at night. This can cause chronic cough.

6. Allergies:
This is another common reason for having chronic cough and cold. You can keep track of allergic cough by noticing if your cough re-appears with certain situation. If you are allergic to dust, you will start coughing while dusting or while you are outside. So, proper precautions need to be taken.

7. Stress:
Are you wondering why your cold is not getting cured? Do you take a lot of stress? If yes, then you got the answer for the first question. Don't over-stress yourself, especially when you are sick, as it will take a longer time to be cured. Hence, relax and sleep for at least 7-8 hours in a day.

8. Medicines For Blood Pressure:
If you have high BP and you're on medication, you can have chronic cough. The angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) can be one of the prime reasons for giving rise to continuous bouts of cough and cold in some people.
