During Pitru Paksha, observing celibacy by a person who is performing shradh is a way to respect the departed souls of ancestors and seek blessings from them when they come to visit their descendants in the earthly realm during this period. This act is also seen as a way to show devotion and gratitude to these souls. Also, not observing celibacy in Pitru Pasha is said to create Pitru Dosha and make ancestors very angry.
Apart from this, all auspicious events like engagement, marriage, housewarming ceremonies, naming ceremonies of the child, etc. are prohibited during this time.
