Pitru Paksha 2023: Top 11 Places For Pind Daan: Pitru Paksha is also known as Mahalaya Paksha and it is considered a 16-day period in the Hindu lunar calendar to honor and pay homage to the ancestors. There are many rituals that family members perform in order to please their ancestors, however, one of the important rituals for a departed soul is Pind Daan.

Pind Daan is one of the essential rituals during this time, where offerings of food, water, and other items are made to satisfy the departed souls. This year Pitru Paksha will begin on 29 September and end on 14 October 2023. There are several important places in India where Pind Daan is traditionally performed during Pitru Paksha. This place is located in Allahabad, which is now Prayagraj Raj and is considered a very sacred place for paying homage to deceased ancestors. This is the place where the three most sacred rivers of India - Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati meet hence the name Triveni Sangam.

This is a very popular place associated with the birthplace of Lord Krishna. It is situated on the banks of this city. This is the birthplace of Lord Shri Krishna. Mathura is considered a holy religious place. This city is situated on the banks of the Yamuna River. Many famous temples including Banke Bihari Temple, and Damodar Temple are located here. It is believed that by offering Pind Daan here, ancestors attain salvation.

7. Sannihit Sarovar, Haryana
This is located in Thanesar in the Kurukshetra district of Haryana is a very significant place for Pind Daan. This lake is considered to be the confluence of seven sacred rivers, which makes it extremely unique. After offering prayers here, people take a bath in the lake to cleanse themselves.

8. Jagannath, Puri
Located at the meeting point of the Mahanadi and Bhargavi rivers, Jagannath Puri is considered one of the holiest places in India for Pind Daan. This sacred site is said to clean all the sins of a person's life and is also one of the four pilgrim destinations or Char Dham Yatra. The popular Jagannath Temple is also located here.

9. Dwarka, Gujarat
It is located on the banks of Gomti River and it is considered one of the holiest sites in India for Pind Daan. This place is even mentioned in the religious epic Mahabharata, where this place is said to be the capital of Lord Krishna's rule. This is a popular place for performing the last rites of departed souls.

10. Pushkar Sarovar, Rajasthan
It is said that ancestors and their descendants get peace to 7 clans and 5 generations if Pindaan is performed here. In Mahabharata, it is mentioned that Lord Krishna has done penance for a long time in Pushkar. There is a pond situated here which is known as 'Gaya Kund' and it is said to bring ten times benefits to the departed souls.

11. Bhairavgarh, Ujjain
This is also a very famous place for Pind Daan, which is performed on the banks of the Kshipra River located in the Bhairavgarh area. There is a Big Banyan tree present here which is known as Siddhavat and it is believed to be planted by Goddess Parvati herself. Also, people offer tarpan at Siddhavat, Gaya Kotha, and Ramghat in Ujjain.
