Pitru Paksha 2023: In Hinduism, ancestors are respected and honoured through numerous rituals and traditions because. They resort to different rituals to bring peace to the souls of their ancestors and to keep their blessings on their families.
When Will Pitru Paksha Start And End?
This year Pitru Paksha is starting on Friday, 29 September 2023. The process of Shradh will continue till Saturday, 14 October 2023. Pitru Paksha lasts from the full moon of Bhadrapada month to the new moon day of Ashwin month.

Why Is Pitru Paksha Observed?
Pitru Paksha is commonly known as Shradh Paksha as well and it falls after the Full Moon Day and marks the beginning of the waxing of the Lunar cycle. There is a belief that the souls of the ancestors reside in Pitrulok and they descend on earth during these 16 days of Pitru Paksha.
It is a 16-day lunar period in the Hindu calendar used to pay homage and tribute to one's ancestors, by offering tarpan. Shradh is performed for 16 days for the satisfaction of their soul and to receive blessings from the family members. This period is also known as Pitri Paksha/Pitr-Paksha, Pitri Pokkho, Sorah Shraddha, Kanagat, Jitiya, Mahalaya, Apara Paksha and Akhadpak, Pitru Pandharavda or Pitru Paksh.
