Kanwar Yatra 2023: When Does It Begin In Sawan Month? Rules, History And Significance
The month of Sawan is very significant for the devotees of Lord Shiva and it is all about devotion and dedication to Bholenath. Certain rituals are followed during this month and the consecration of holy water on the Shiva Linga holds incredible value for the devotees.
Kanwar Yatra begins in the month of Sawan itself and devotees chant slogans of Bam Bam Bhole, the crowd of devotees comes out with Kavad. No matter what your desires are, the ultimate aim is to please Mahadev.

The yatra takes place in the month of Sawan and devotees go to collect holy Ganges water and then perform Jalabhishek of Mahadev with it. It is the belief of the devotees that by doing this Lord Shiva becomes happy and blesses them and fulfills their wishes. the
month

Shravan
will
start
on
4
July
2023
and
will
continue
till
31st
August.
Kanwar
Yatra
2023:
When

Sawan
Month?
With
the
onset
of
Sawan,
the
Kanwar
Yatra
will
also
begin
and
Kanwariyas
can
start
their
journey
on
4
July,
this
year.
There
is
a
belief
that
this
Sawan
is
going
to
bring
a
rain
of
happiness
and
prosperity
to
the
devotees
of
Lord
Shiva.
Due
to
Adhika-masa,
the
devotees
will
get
full
two
months
to
receive
the
blessings
of
Lord
Shiva.
During
this
month,
there
will
be
a
total
of
8
Mondays.
Kanwar
Yatra

Rules
To
Follow
Devotees
going
on
Kanwar
Yatra
must
take
care
of
the
cleanliness.
One
must
not
touch
the
Kanwar
without
taking
a
bath.
They
need
to
pick
up
your
Kanwar
only
after
taking
a
bath
and
deciding
on
the
journey
ahead.
- During the Kanwar Yatra, one must neither use nor touch anything that is made of leather.
- Also, one must never make the mistake of keeping the Kanwar on the ground in this journey dedicated to Lord Shiva. If you are stopping for routine or rest etc., then keep the Kanwar at a high place only.
- During the journey, it is seen that some people keep the Kanwar on their heads, but according to the scriptures, it is forbidden to do so.
- It is also forbidden to keep the Kanwar under any tree or plant.
- Along with external cleanliness, it is also very important to have purity of mind in Kanwar Yatra.
- Keep your mind clear while travelling and avoid engaging in anger or dispute. You must not use inappropriate words.
- Spend maximum time in worshipping Shiva during the Kanwar Yatra. During this, chant Bol Bam and Jai Shiv-Shankar as much as possible. You can also chant Shiva mantras.
- Kavadis are also advised to stay away from any kind of intoxication. Consuming fish, eggs during this time are strictly prohibited. Not only those who travel, all Shiva devotees abstain from Tamasic food during the month of Sawan.
- For the devotees who are participating in the Kanwar Yatra, maintaining their faith in Lord Shiva is more important than following the rules.
