Paush Amavasya 2025: Do These Most Powerful Rituals For Closure On The Final Amavasya Of The Year
Yoga Day Is Around the Corner And It’s Coming With A Theme You Can’t Ignore!
Each year on 21st June, people across the globe roll out their mats in celebration of International Yoga Day. What began as a proposal by India at the United Nations in 2014 has since evolved into a worldwide movement, promoting not just physical health but emotional balance, mental clarity, and now, environmental mindfulness.
For 2025, the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" draws attention to the connection between how we care for ourselves and how we care for the planet. In an age where both personal well-being and environmental sustainability are under strain, this year's message feels especially relevant.
2025 Theme : One Earth, One Health
This year's theme was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his radio programme Mann Ki Baat on 30th March 2025. The concept goes beyond individual wellness routines; it reminds us that human health and planetary health are two sides of the same coin.
The phrase "One Earth" refers to our shared habitat-home to humans, animals, plants, and ecosystems. "One Health" reflects how air quality, clean water, nutrition, and a healthy environment all play a crucial role in shaping our well-being.
By promoting harmony within, yoga also encourages harmony with the world around us.
India's Plans : A Landmark Gathering In Visakhapatnam
India is preparing for one of the largest yoga events to date. A Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session will be held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with more than five lakh participants expected to join in. Additionally, events will take place at over one lakh locations across the country, from schools and workplaces to parks and public spaces.
The initiative reflects India's commitment to making yoga more accessible and inclusive, especially for students, women, senior citizens, and marginalised communities.
PM Modi also acknowledged international efforts like 'Somos India'-a movement popular in Spanish-speaking countries which has introduced thousands of people to the principles of yoga and Ayurveda.
Yoga As A Lifestyle, Not A Quick Fix
The world continues to grapple with issues such as climate change, poor air quality, lifestyle diseases, and chronic stress. Against this backdrop, the message of "One Earth, One Health" encourages a shift in thinking: from short-term fixes to long-term harmony.
Yoga, when practised regularly, serves both as a health enhancer and as a behavioural guide.
- It nurtures self-discipline and mindful choices.
- It supports sustainable habits, such as plant-based eating, reduced consumption, and mindful use of resources.
- It creates space for reflection, compassion, and collective action.
What Yoga Offers For You And The Planet
The benefits of yoga go far beyond flexibility and balance.
For individuals, it can:
- Improve mobility and core strength
- Ease stress and anxiety
- Support cardiovascular and metabolic health
- Encourage restful sleep and better emotional regulation
- For the environment, it promotes:
- Conscious consumption and waste reduction
- A lifestyle rooted in moderation rather than excess
- A mindset that prioritises nature, community, and simplicity
By encouraging harmony within, yoga naturally extends that balance outward-to families, communities, and the wider environment.
A Global Community In Motion
The 2025 theme also aligns with India's G20 Presidency and the country's wider approach to wellness and sustainable living. It echoes traditional Indian values such as "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (the world is one family) and "Sarve Santu Niramaya" (may all be free of illness).
These ancient principles are finding new relevance as communities around the world seek ways to stay healthy without compromising the Earth's future. Through yoga, this vision becomes not just possible, but practical.
A Conscious Step Forward
As International Yoga Day celebrates its 11th year, the call is no longer only to move your body-it is to expand your awareness. "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" highlights that well-being is not an isolated goal but a shared responsibility.
Whether you're stretching in a park, meditating in your room, or participating in a public session, you are contributing to a larger cause: one that values balance, simplicity, and collective care.
