Ugadi 2023: The New Year Festival As Celebrated In Karnataka

Ugadi falls on Chaitra Shukla pratipada tithi which is the very first day of Shobhakrit Samvatsara. Each Samvatsara has a name and there are 60 samvatsars. Every samvatsar carries a day for Yugadi which is bound to arrive between March-April of every year.
The Ugadi Routine
The Yugadi celebrations begin and end with a routine that includes several auspicious activities and entertaining events. Waking up at Arunodaya kala is mandatory. While waking up , make sure you get up from your right side first and do not forget to chant the morning mantra.
Getting up in the morning, the first thing you get to see is the mirror, the Gods picture, the Cow, the Sun or Your gurus photo. Thinking of Five pathivratas in the early morning is ideal to start the day with as they are really worth remembering and secondly their remembrance positively impacts your thoughts. Now since it is a festival, watch your reflection in ghee which is poured in a vessel.
Next, get ready for oil bath and associated rituals. The grandmother or any elderly lady related to the family must make the family sit together, apply kumkum on every one's forehead, and perform Aarthi. Each of the family should offer dakshina in the form of cash to the lady and now the lady will apply oil on every one's head. Just prostrate before God and get ready for an oil bath. Even deities are given oil and haldi bath as per the information given in panchangaminenglish.com..
Pachadi And Panchangam
Firstly, the Ugadi pachadi is offered to God and pooja with shodashopachara is conducted. Then the new year panchang and Indra Dhwaja is worshipped. Indradhwaja is a five feet long stick which resembles the Gudi of the Maharashtrians very closely but now it remains as an information in the panchang, there is a mantra associated while hoisting the Gudi or the Indra Dhwaja, which is as follows.
