Tirumala is the richest and most popular temple in India, and the most important pilgrimage centres. It draws millions of visitors from all over the globe and Lord Venkateshwara is compassion and kindness personified in the idol. There are seven hills in the Eastern Ghats and the temple is located on the topmost that is the seventh hill. Deftly managed by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), it is located in the Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh. It is a temple where certain restrictions are strictly followed and it is important to follow them for any visitor. Following the Dos and Don'ts will help you get a better darshan of the Lord of Tirupati.

Dos in Tirumala

1. Perform puja to your Kul devata before you leave for Tirupati.

2. Please contact TTD Devasthanam Enquiry for any questions about the temple and the worship

modes. Book your travel and accommodation in Tirumala through TTD only prior to your visit.

3. While doing the pradakshina, the shrine should be towards your right side.

4. Before entering the temple, bathe in the Swami pushkarini and worship BhuVaraha swamy.

5. Once inside the temple, chant "Om Namo Sri Venkatesaya", in silence.

6. Take holy dips in the Papavinasanam and Akasha Ganga tirthams.

7. Your offerings should reach only the Srivari Hundi.

8. Don't manipulate the Queue and follow the procedures for the darshan of the Lord.

9. Please wear a tilak on your forehead

Don'ts

1. Don't Come to Tirumala for any purpose other than worshipping the Lord. If your intentions are to test and question the power and magnificence of the Lord in any way, it is best to drop the idea of going there. The temple premises should not be used for political meetings, campaigns, or speech.

2. Footwear should not be left around the premises.

3. Don't perform sashtanga pranam to the lord inside the temple premises.

4. Don't discard the prasad given to you. Consume them without fail.

5. Do not indulge in any vices as long as you reside in Tirupati. Don't indulge in gambling as well.

6. Do not cover your head with anything, like helmets, turbans and hats once you are inside the premises.

7. Don't behave inhumanly or disagreeably with the crowd assembled there in the temple. Do not spit inside the premises.

8. Do not wear flower strings on your hair as all the flowers in Tirupati are meant for the lord's decoration.

9. Don't donate money to beggars. It is best not to encourage begging by giving them something.

10. Do not resort to shortcuts for quick darshan.

11. Heavy jewellery and cash should not be carried in person.

12. Do not accept or buy prasadam from vendors in the street. Any prasadam that you will get will be from the temple itself.

13. Do not eat anything inside or chew paan or betel leaves once you are inside the temple.

14. If you are distressed physically and mentally, you must not visit the temple.

15. Do not sleep in the premises. Book a room for yourself for the purpose.

16. You should not boast about or flaunt your wealth or status. Everyone is treated in the same manner there.

17. When you seated, you should make sure your back does not face the deity.

18. Do not do namaskar with only one hand. It is a highly disrespectful gesture.

19. Do not litter the area with paper chits etc. Maintain the cleanliness of the temple area by not throwing the waste.

20. Do not look down upon the religious sentiments of the people present there.
