8 Indian Temples With Built-In Sri Chakra
Temples are usually built in certain specified locations so as to invoke the divine energy of that presiding Deity for that temple. There are about 5 lakh temples in India, out of which one lakh are from South India itself. The sights and sounds of the temples, for example, bell chime, and aarthis have their own spiritual significance and can lead a devotee to a temporary trance.

Each temple has its legends for which it is famous. Sri chakra is the most powerful yantra ever known, and couple of them were installed by Adi Shankaracharya in temples which attract large crowds even today. Sri chakra denotes prosperity and the temple that has the Sri chakra installed draws maximum devotees. Here is a list of Sri Chakra based temples in India.
1. Golden Temple Sripuram, Tirumalaikodi, Vellore
Malaikodi in Vellore is famous for its Golden temple of Sripuram which was inaugurated in 2007. The artwork and the entire expanse of the temple is in gold. In the middle of the landscape, there is a Sri chakra of about 1.8 km This Sripuram design is nothing but Sri Yantra. It is engraved with messages from Sri Sakhti Amma along with messages from leaders of other faiths.
2. Sri Yantra Mandir, Haridwar, Uttarakhand
Built in 1991, the Sri Yantra temple at Haridwar was founded in 1991. Apart from a Shiv Lingam, this temple also has sannidhis or altars for Lords Ganesha, Parvati, Lard Narayan with Lakshmi, Surya, and Hanuman. This is also known to be a centre for Shakti upasana. The red stone used in the building makes this Sri Yantra temple one of its kind in the world. Large number of people visit it daily as well as during festivals.
3. Sri Yantra Temple, Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh
Narmada originates in this place, Amarkantak, which is a pilgrimage centre in Madhya Pradesh. This temple is constructed in the shape of Sri chakra correctly as per religious and sculptural instructions. Only certain auspicious days are earmarked for the construction process as other days are not recommended. With a geometry that matches with that of the Swarna Sri Yantra, the construction of this temple is carried out only during auspicious muhurtas and stars as per Hindu Panchang.
4. The Dhyan Mandir, Nikona, Surat, Gujarat
Situated on the bank of the Narmada river, this temple is shaped like a Sri yantra is a Dhyan Kendra where in actually thousands sit every day to do meditation. For construction, Aanandi Mas instructions have been followed and it is shaped into a perfect Sri yantra.
5. Shri Arasuri Ambaji Mata Temple, Gujarat
The Ambaji Mata temple is a very prominent place for pilgrimage as it is the place where Sati's heart fell. This place has no idols, and statues but it has a sri yantra which happens to be the chief deity of this temple and this is worshipped in a regular manner. Hence it is an important place spiritually and historically.
6. Shri Jagannath Temple, Puri, Odisha
The world famous East Indian temple of Puri Jagannath, which is one of the worshipped Chardhams, has Sri Yantra engraved in the Temple's Ratnavedi on which Lalita Parameshwari's idol in seated position with four arms.
7. Maha Meru Temple, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu
The Maha Meru temple is built in such a way to resemble the ancient 11th century temples, with Maha Meru sculpted on the roof, above the dome of the temple.
8. Shri Chandrabadni Temple, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand
Shri Chandrabadni Temple was built at the place where the Torso of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Shiva was roaming about carrying her charred body. Her weapons also dropped in this place along with parts of her body. This temple does not have an idol of Goddess to worship but only a Shri Yantra that is carved on a flat stone which is used for worshipping even today in the main temple.
