When There Are Double, Life Is In Trouble

There is a common saying that in the arithmetic of love, one plus one equals everything, and when pondering over this statement it is natural for anyone to slip into another possible question, What if one plus two equals? Is it possible for someone to have two sweethearts at the same time? When provoking your thoughts on love, at the very outset you should know what exactly is love. Love normally comes as a package consisted of caring, sharing and sacrificing. It is the merging or union of two souls into one existence. The divine love has no place for another one as the lovers are fused together into one body and one soul as religious scripts proclaim.

But anyway today, in this modern world the fingerprints of divinity is faded in romantic affairs. We are tend to look at it with a more rational and practical outlook. We like to equal the word relationship or love to companionship. The journey of life is like a flowing river as far as the relationships are concerned. At certain phases of life few people join us, they flow with us for a while and then bid good bye in search of new streams. So the idea is clear; whether one, two, three... you can have number of relationships when lover equals just a companion.

I am afraid that I am doing a great injustice to the gallons of tears that lovers had shed on earth from the very beginning of life on this planet. When I say love and romance are trivial and filthy, I am afraid that the dreams and hopes of millions of true lovers may burn me off. These differences in opinion is just because there are love and relationships in two aspects. One is the true love and the other one a peripheral attraction. With regarding a mere attraction or a companionship numbers do not matter, there can be many and still more. But, true love that germinates from the heart, which is inspired by an unknown divinity may feel it itching and irritating even to think about a third person among the lovers. If true love is sacrificing yourself fully to your lover, how can you give a share to someone else then? If divine love is living fully for each other, how would you find a fraction of a second for a third person? The answer is simple as a big 'no' to a third person when you are in true love.

Just out of curiosity I asked one of my friends, who I believe to be stuck in a romantic affair, that what opinion she holds about having two lovers at the same time or what if she come to know that her lover has one more face glittering in his heart besides her face... The answer was a cute smile and to my astonishment she told after a while.. “It depends on your caliber and capacity". The typical answer that one can expect from the modern generation. If you have the caliber to make lovers wherever you go and if you have the capacity to go forward with number of lovers, making each of them to believe that she or he is the only beloved to you, then what else may make a barrier in your romantic adventures. No wonder if the numbers spring up from single digit to multiples. If you don't hesitate to crush the centuries-old human ethics and morality beneath your feet, you may have number of faces in your mind and possibly proclaim so shamelessly you are the 'true lover'.

The romantic age, when immortal poets Wordsworth, Shelley and Keats blessed the world of literature with holistic romantic thoughts, might have happened long back in history. The blood shed love story of Helen and Paris, may be just a piece of imagination. But the millions of true lovers living among us and their feelings could no way be ignored. Only when fleeing behind one after another for petty filthy romance you may say that romance has lost the relevance and dating and relationships are the new forms of romance. True love is immortal and as the most holy bond between two souls, only between two never more, it will live forever... at least in the minds of people who realize the greatness of true love.
