World Breastfeeding Week 2023: 5 Important Facts, Date, History And Theme
Breastfeeding is a natural and essential aspect of motherhood, providing numerous benefits to both the mother and the baby. In order to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding, World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated globally every year.
World Breastfeeding Week 2023 is an annual celebration which is held every year from 1 to 7 August in more than 120 countries.

History Of World Breastfeeding Week
World Breastfeeding Week was first celebrated in 1992 by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to commemorate the Innocenti Declaration made in August 1990.
The declaration aimed to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding worldwide, recognising it as a vital aspect of maternal and child health.
Theme For World Breastfeeding Week 2023
Each year, World Breastfeeding Week adopts a specific theme to highlight significant aspects of breastfeeding. The theme for World Breastfeeding Week 2023 is "Let's make breastfeeding and work, work!"

The theme for this year is breastfeeding and work, providing a strategic opportunity to advocate for essential maternity rights that support breastfeeding - maternity leave for a minimum of 18 weeks, ideally for longer than six months, as well as workplace accommodations after this point.
Five Important Facts About Breastfeeding:
1) Breast milk provides optimal nutrition: Breast milk contains all the necessary nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that a baby needs for healthy growth and development.
2) Boosts the immune system: Breast milk is rich in antibodies, providing protection against various infections and diseases for the baby.
3 Bonding and emotional connection: Breastfeeding fosters a unique bond between the mother and the baby, promoting emotional well-being for both.
4) Reduces the risk of certain diseases: Breastfeeding has been linked to a reduced risk of obesity, diabetes, and certain types of cancer for both the mother and the baby.
5) Environmental sustainability: Breastfeeding is eco-friendly, as it requires no packaging, transportation, or waste production.
