Myths Vs Facts: Heartburn During Pregnancy Is Sign That Your Baby Will Have Thick Hair
When it comes to pregnancy, many myths and beliefs abound, and the topic of heartburn and its connection to the baby's hair is no exception. Many people believe that if a pregnant woman experiences heartburn, then the baby will have thick hair.

But is this really true? Let's take a look at the facts.
Is Heartburn During Pregnancy A Sign That Your Baby Will Have Thick Hair?
First, it is a scientific fact that pregnant women can experience heartburn. Heartburn is a common symptom of pregnancy due to the increased levels of hormones, which can cause the muscles of the digestive tract to relax and allow stomach acid to travel back up the oesophagus. This can cause a burning sensation in the chest and throat [1].
Additionally, the growing baby in the womb can press up against the stomach, further compounding the issue. This can cause the stomach acid to be pushed back up and create an even more uncomfortable sensation.

For example, when pregnant women lie down, their growing baby can put more pressure on the stomach, causing an increase in the amount of stomach acid that is pushed back up.
So, as the baby grows, the uterus presses up against the mother's stomach and forces the stomach acid back up into the oesophagus. This can create a burning sensation and be very uncomfortable for the mother [2].
What is the fact?
However, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that heartburn during pregnancy is directly linked to the baby's hair. In fact, the amount of hair a baby has is determined by genetics. It's not possible to predict how much hair a baby will have before it is born [3].
This is because the hormones produced during pregnancy can cause the lower oesophagal sphincter to relax, which can lead to heartburn. However, this has nothing to do with the baby's hair. The baby's hair is determined by the genetic information inherited from the mother and father.

On A Final Note...
Therefore, the myth that heartburn during pregnancy is a sign that the baby will have thick hair is just that, a myth. Heartburn can be an uncomfortable symptom of pregnancy, but it is not a predictor of what the baby's hair will look like.
