With the setting in of monsoon, the number of infectious diseases is escalating. In a span of just 15 days, Mumbai has witnessed 7 people succumbing to the deadly H1N1 and leptospirosis.
This is not all. At the same time, there are several reported cases of dengue, cholera and gastroenteritis, which have been on the rise since June. With the latest being a four-year-old child from Mankhurd, five people have succumbed to H1N1 since June till date.
However, the death toll across Maharashtra due to H1N1 this year has already crossed 300. It was also learnt that majority of the victims were suffering from certain underlying medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension, pneumonia and also multi-organ failure.

According to experts, these kinds of serious underlying medical conditions among the patients puts them at a greater risk of contracting the infections and the recovery gets affected.
