Traditional foods occupy a large part of this celebration and it includes roasted turkey, sweet potatoes, cornbread, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and other mouth-watering dishes. Also, breaking the turkey's wishbone ( (Y-shaped bone) carries a superstition and is a major part of the celebrations.
The wishbone of a turkey is found attached to the breast meat in the turkey's chest and once it becomes dry and brittle, two people take one end of the bone, make a wish, and pull. Whoever gets the large part of the bone end gets their wish fulfilled.
It is a way to acknowledge the importance of the earth's bounty and the fruits of labor. Overall, the significance of Thanksgiving lies in its emphasis on gratitude, family, community, and the acknowledgment of the blessings and abundance in our lives.
