Banaras Sarees
Banaras Sarees are an inevitable part of any Indian bride's trousseau. The expert weavers change the style of this unique sarees to suit different regional markets and changing fashion. The characteristic embroidery of these sarees is influenced by Mughal designs such as intricate intertwining floral and foliate motifs, kalga and bel. A string of upright leaves called jhallr at the outer, edge of border is a characteristic of these sarees. Not only this Benaras sarees are widely known for its heavy gold-silver brocades. The other range of Banarasi sarees are Jamvar, Navrangi (nine colors), and Jamdani etc.
Chanderi Sarees
Chanderi Sarees from Madhya Pradesh are light silk or fine cotton sarees and ideal for Indain summers. They are often embroidered with patterns taken from the Chanderi temples. They are known for soft colours and the harmonious blend between the body and border of the sari. On occasions these sarees will come out with contrasting colours with the depiction of animal or human figures on them.
Kanjeewaram Saree
An Indian bride's trousseau will remain incomplete without a Kanjeewaram saree. This brilliant fabric of silk is quite famous for its gold dipped silver thread woven into it. These sarees have a rare tradition of 150 years untouched by any fashion fads. Since the silk used in these sarees are heavy, they are very expensive and ensure durability. The common motifs of these sarees are peacock and parrot.
Maheswari Sarees
Maheswari Sarees are in cotton or silk and usually in the colours of green or purple. The traditional block printed tussar is a speciality of these sarees. These sarees are known for its elaborate patterns and border. These have exotic motifs done in zari and inspired by nature.
Patola Silk Sarees
The ever-famous Patola silks are made by a handful of master weavers from Patan and Surat known for its zari work. The zari of the sari has a patina, which is gentle as it is woven in the twill weave. They may embroider with mirrors and beads. The elaborate pallavs and borders are dazzlingly decorated with motifs worn in warm colours. The Patola silk sarees are also famous for the architectural designs known as the Heer Bharat. There are some fine Patola silk sarees without zari that can be used for informal occasions.
