Richa Ghosh Just Made History, Here’s How She Did It Before Turning 22, Know Her Mind Blowing Achievements

Before turning 22, most of us are still figuring out our careers, switching majors, or wondering whether we should send that risky text. Meanwhile, Richa Ghosh has smashed her way into the cricket history books-bat in hand, confidence on her face, and 6 boundaries in just 20 balls.

On July 1, 2025, at the County Ground in Bristol, while the Indian women's team was staring at yet another early collapse, it was Richa who came in like a quiet storm. No drama, no over-the-top celebration-just clean, calculated power-hitting that helped India post a massive total of 181. But hidden beneath the scoreboard was a moment that the world almost missed: Richa Ghosh had just crossed 1000 runs in T20 Internationals. And not just that-she did it with a strike rate above 140, becoming the first woman ever to achieve this feat in world cricket.

This wasn't just a milestone-it was a mic-drop.

Early Life And Education

Born on September 28, 2003, in Siliguri, West Bengal, Richa Ghosh was raised in a cricket-loving household. Her father, Manabendra Ghosh, played club cricket and trained her from a young age. Richa picked up the bat when she was just four years old and began practicing under her father's watchful eye at the local stadium in Siliguri.

She studied at Margaret Sister Nivedita English School and later pursued her education privately to manage the rigorous cricketing schedule that began dominating her life early on. By the time she was in her early teens, Richa had already started making waves in domestic cricket, impressing selectors with her fearless batting and agile wicketkeeping.

Early Career And T20I Debut At Just 16

Richa Ghosh made her international T20I debut in February 2020, just days before her 17th birthday, against Australia. She was the second-youngest player to represent India in a T20I match and immediately caught the spotlight with her aggressive style.

Her inclusion in the 2020 ICC Women's T20 World Cup squad further cemented her status as a rising star. Though she played limited roles early on, her maturity under pressure and confidence in the lower order made her a go-to choice for finishers in India's T20 lineup.

Richa Ghosh's World Record Feat

During the 2nd T20I against England at Bristol, Richa Ghosh entered the crease when India were struggling at 124/4, after a 93-run partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and Amanjot Kaur had steadied the ship. Ghosh played an unbeaten knock of 32 in just 20 balls, smashing six boundaries and giving India a fiery finish as they posted 181.

But the real milestone came quietly: with that innings, Richa Ghosh crossed 1000 runs in Women's T20Is. More importantly, she became the only player in history to have 1000+ T20I runs at a strike rate above 140-a feat never achieved by any other woman in world cricket.
At just 21 years old, she now holds a record that blends power-hitting with consistency, changing the perception of how finishing roles in women's cricket are viewed.
