Sleepwalking
Sleepwalking is a disorder and it involves getting up during sleep and walking. It is one of the strange things that humans do in the deep stages of sleep. Referred to as somnambulism, sleep walking is more common in children than adults. Generally, sleep walking occurs in childhood, somewhere between the age groups of 4 and 8 and they could last till teenage or adulthood. Some of the symptoms of sleep walking include light walking to agitated walking. The other symptoms are weird behaviour such as urinating in closets (common in children), no memory and screaming.
Feeling like falling - jolted awake while falling asleep
This is well-known as a hypnagogic jerk. It usually occurs when you are falling asleep. Hypnagogic jerk is an involuntary myclonic twitch that happens when the individual is beginning to doze off. Some people could also feel it like a huge muscle spasm. It is estimated that almost 70 percent of people experience the hypnagogic jerk. When you have a hypnagogic jerk, you might have hallucinations, the sensation of falling or loud noises coming from your brain.
Sleep paralysis
Usually, a person experiencing sleep paralysis has a terrifying feeling of being held down after falling asleep. People tend to feel that he or she can’t move a muscle or speak. This sensation can last from few seconds to several minutes. It happens when a person passes between wakefulness and sleep. Generally, persons who experience this kind of strange things while asleep (sleep paralysis) will have difficulty in breathing.
Sleep eating
Sleep eating disorder is supposedly not an eating disorder but it is related to sleep disorder. This is also referred to as nocturnal sleep-related eating disorder or NS-RED. The person who has this condition would usually get up in the middle of the night and consume food in large amounts without even realising it. For some people, the problem turns out to be chronic while for others it can occur once or twice.
Night terrors
Known as sleep terror or pavor nocturnes, night terrors is a sleep disorder. This sleep disruption is similar to a nightmare. Night terror is a strange thing we experience when asleep. It cannot be considered a dream but more of sudden reaction to fear that occurs during a transition from one stage of sleep to another. The person experiencing night terror would let out a blood curdling scream after getting up.
Confusion arousal
One of the other strange things we do when asleep is experiencing confusion arousal. This is usually compared to the antics by a drunken person. People experiencing this symptom would wake up often and do completely bizarre things. They would make odd kind of noises such as mumbling or moaning. Some of them would even talk with a remote thinking it is a phone.
