University education is the prime aspiration of any literature student. We look forward to the vast realms of knowledge that the self education can provide in a University. The so far bookish knowledge will expand its wings under the influence of unknown theories and experiments. My expectations were not different as I entered my first University class.
The beginning of academics gave a huge punch to my ego. I found that the so far gained academic success does not help me to stand in front of a seminar hall or to compete with my classmates. My long hours at the library added confusion than untying the web. I broke into tears as each professor declared their results.
My first semester thus passed away by rooting inferiority and unworthiness in my mind. Professors were too busy to note lame students like me as they concentrated on the intellectual development of the born geniuses. However the end of the second semester brought a light into me as I had to present a brief overview of Tennyson's The Lady Of Shallot*. I put forward her brave soul to face the calamities to wipe out the loneliness that surrounded her. The presentation was appreciated by everyone as I started to contemplate the poem in real life.
It came upon me that my life is as lonely as The Lady Of Shallot. However it is not the result of any curse, instead the outcome my false pride to approach anyone for help. I noted that many of my classmates were ready to help me while my ego did not let me to accept the crowd. I also realized that my outlook of the world is as blurred as the mirror images of The Lady Of Shallot.
I decided to leave behind the magical web of frustration that I was weaving over the past six months. I realized that if
