Music can play magic
There is a beautiful passage in a book called "Home of the Gentry", by Ivan Turgenev, where the protagonist of the novel listens to a piece of music being played on the piano that touches him to the depth of his soul. It is necessary to quote his words in a passage. As a matter of fact, it will describe very eloquently the almost mystical power that music wields over the human mind, a power which is fascinating.
"The sweet and passionate melody captivated his heart from the first note; it was full of radiance, full of the tender throbbing of inspiration and happiness and beauty, continually growing and melting away; it rumoured of everything on earth that is dear, secret and sacred to mankind; it breathed of immortal sadness and it departed from the earth to die in the heavens."
I quoted these lines to show that music has a tremendous ability to effect and manipulate emotions of an individual. Whenever you feel sad, morose or are thinking in particular about something that you are not being able to solve, music in some way or the other refreshes our mind. Thus in a way it can be said that music can have magical effects on us and on our lives. The emotion created by a piece of music may be affected by memories associated with the piece, by the environment it is being played in, by the mood of the person listening and their personality, by the culture they were brought up in and by any number of factors both impossible to control and impossible to quantify. Under such circumstances, it is extremely difficult to deduce what intrinsic quality of the music, if any, created a specific emotional response in the listener. Even when such seemingly intrinsic qualities are found, they are often found to be at least partially culturally dependant.
Alzheimer's disease is a well-known type of dementia that affects millions of elderly people every year as seen in a study. There are very few solutions to the cure of these diseases, but according to a study, it has been found that the effects of music on the agitation, emotions, and motor abilities and in reducing the levels of agitation, increasing levels of positive effects are relevant. It also has improved the ability of the patients to compete a motor skills task.
Listening to music is often thought to be a recreational activity; the positive health benefits of doing so are often forgotten. Music has been found to have a soothing effect on the soul and can offer a relaxing effect to students before exam or entertaining a party. Many studies show that music has worked as a therapy to help people who are sick, injured, mentally ill or aging people. Some people are of the opinion that music can even help them overcome mood swings and depression. It can help you control your emotions and can even stop the outbursts that would have otherwise been released and someone would have got offended.
It can be concluded that music has a very far-reaching effect and a magical effect on your life and mind. We can never deny the effects of the music in our lives and at the same time the therapy of music is undeniable. People staying at home all by themselves can spend time listening to music. Thus, music is magical and works magic on people.
