National Milk Day 2023: National Milk Day is celebrated every year on 26 November in India. This day is dedicated to the birthday of Dr. Verghese Kurien, who is fondly remembered as the father of the White Revolution and the Milkman of India.
Due to his ideas and efforts, a system of farmer cooperatives was created, which helped transform the country from an importer of dairy products to the world's largest milk producer. Dr.
Varghese
Kurien
was
born
on
26
November
1921
in
Kozhikode,
Kerala.
He
worked
on
the
plan
of
"White
Revolution" to
take
India
to

world
level
in
milk
production.
Through
this,
he
encouraged
the
organization
of
cooperative
milk
farmers
across
the
country
and
provided
them
with
technical
and
financial
assistance.
Kurien established the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), whose main objective was to promote milk production, provide prosperity to farmers, and ensure the supply of milk products across the country.
Dr. Kurien encouraged new thinking in agriculture and industry and he studied the right technical measures at the right time, which increased milk production in the country. This is why he is called the "Father of the White Revolution".
Dr. Verghese Kurien's contribution was important in making the country self-reliant, and his life is still a source of inspiration for the young generation.
