Why Anne Hathaway Swapped Oscar Dress?

When Anne Hathaway walked the Oscars 2013 red carpet, we were all shocked. We had expected to see Anne Hathaway in her customary Valentino gown. But she walked the Oscars 2013 red carpet wearing a Prada creation instead! This last minute dress swap has raised many questions that remain unanswered.

Valentino is Anne Hathaway's favourite designer. In fact, she rarely wears gowns made by any other designer. The Italian fashion maestro has even accompanied Anne Hathaway for Oscars 2011! This year too, the fashion house has announced to the media in advance that Anne Hathaway's Oscar gown would be a Valentino creation. So it was a huge embarrassment for the designer when Anne Hathaway chose to wear Prada instead of her stipulated Valentino gown.

Anne Hathaway Dress Swap

However, the big scoop is that the reason for this last minute dress swap has been revealed. The grapevine is abuzz with whispers that Anne Hathaway's original Oscar gown was very similar to Amanda Seyfried's dress. So when the two Les Miserables co-stars exchanged notes, Anne freaked out her dress being very similar to Amanda's. She asked her stylist to arrange a new gown on short notice. Amanda Seyfried's Oscar dress was a beautiful Alexander Mcqueen creation. Amanda's gown was an halter neck that was embellished and had an icy bluish hue.

Anne Hathaway's own confession on the red carpet that "I didn't know what I was wearing till 2 hours back" also supports this rumour.

Now Oscar 2013 was Anne Hathaway's special night. She won the Oscar for the best supporting actress for her role in Les Miserables. Will Valentino ever forgive her for ditching his gown on this special night? Let us not forget that Anne Hathaway's wedding dress was also designed by Valentino and he had confessed that "she is like my daughter".

Although we just love this pink satin gown that Anne Hathaway wore to Oscars 2013, we really wish to see the original Valentino gown as well!
