The Last Bottle Of Johnnie Walker!
If you happen to have an original Johnnie Walker whiskey bottle in your liquor cabinet then save it. It will soon be an antique. This is because, as we speak, the last bottle of premium scotch whiskey from this brand will soon be a in a museum in Kilmarnock. Yes, the news is true, Diageo, the owner of the brand is shutting down Johnnie Walker factory in this tiny Scottish town forever.
The Town Of Johnnie Walker:
For
the
last
192
years,
this
premium
scotch
whiskey
has
been
produced
in
the
Scottish
town
of
Kilmarnock.
The
first
ever
bottle
of
this
whiskey
was
sold
way
back
in
1820.
The
brand
was
started
by
Mr.
John
Walker,
better
known
as
'Johnnie'
,
who
sold
whiskey
bottles
at
his
grocery
store.
The
connection
with
the
brand
is
so
strong
that
the
town
took
to
the
streets
to
protest
against
the
impending
death
of
this
whiskey
brand.
The
Beginning
Of
The
End:
The first news of this closure came in 2009. Diageo, mother company made its intentions very clear. The following 2 years have gone in accommodating the 700 members of the staff and dealing with the protests that ensued. But even, political interventions from the local legislators could not halt the shutting down of this factory.
So
Does
Johnnie
Walker
Die?
Well,
the
Kilmarnock
factory
has
been
shut
down
but
as
far
as
the
whiskey
brand
is
concerned,
it
gets
a
new
home
in
Leven
In
Fife.
Diageo,
the
British
owners
have
indicated
that
they
would
like
to
'rework'
the
label
that
clearly
states
the
brand's
deep
rooted
connection
with
its
home
town,
Kilmarnock.
This
whiskey
is
sold
in
almost
every
corner
of
the
world
with
a
total
sale
of
16.3
million
cases
annually.
So
the
Johnnie
Walker
Red
and
Black
label
lovers
across
the
world
will
still
get
their
Scotch
whiskey
but
from
a
different
location.
