Behind The Glam, Building A Greener Planet : 6 Bollywood Celebs Who Turned Sustainability Into A Lifestyle
Every June 5, World Environment Day invites us to rethink how we live and consume. This year, the theme zeroes in on plastic pollution-a challenge that seeps into our homes, oceans, and food systems. But beyond the numbers and statistics, what really sparks change are the choices people make, day by day. In the entertainment world, several public figures are quietly but effectively using their platforms to push for better habits and greener decisions.
Alia Bhatt : Turning Fashion Into a Force For Good
Alia Bhatt isn't just making waves with her acting-she's also making a case for mindful fashion. Her brand, Ed-a-Mamma, is a kidswear label that uses natural fabrics, staying away from synthetic, harmful materials. It's comfortable for children and gentler on the planet.
She also made headlines for wearing her wedding saree again at the National Awards - a powerful statement on rewearing and repurposing outfits with pride. Her social-media posts encourage fans to favour responsible labels over fast fashion, making "sustainability" feel approachable rather than out-of-reach.
Kriti Sanon : Beauty Without The Waste
Actor-entrepreneur Kriti Sanon launched her skincare brand Hyphen in 2023 with a clear commitment: 100% vegan products and zero plastic packaging. She also co-founded The Tribe, a fitness platform that promotes overall well-being.
Beyond beauty and fitness, Kriti uses her public voice for causes like menstrual hygiene through her role with Pro-ease sanitary napkins, showing how personal care and environmental care can go hand-in-hand.
This year, she also partnered with MRAI (The Mumbai Recycler's Association of India) during IIFA 2025 as the Sustainability and Recycling Partner, urging fans to reduce, reuse and recycle at large public events. Beyond that, Hyphen runs seasonal drives to collect empty bottles for proper recycling.
Ajay Devgn : Green Cover In Action
As the face of the World Environment Day 2025 campaign by the Ravin Group and Bhamla Foundation, Ajay Devgn is putting trees where his words are. He's taken part in initiatives like the Green India Challenge and the BMC Mega Vriksha Campaign, helping expand urban greenery.
His work reminds us that environmental action isn't just about saying the right things-it's about doing them.More recently, he starred in a short film titled 'Pyaasa' released by BMC's "Tik Tik Plastic" initiative to dramatise how single-use plastic harms urban water bodies.
Ritesh and Genelia Deshmukh: Plant-Based Change
In 2020, this couple co-founded Imagine Foods, which creates plant-based meat alternatives to reduce the strain of factory farming on the environment. Genelia took things a step further by collaborating with Starbucks India to launch a vegan menu, giving consumers more sustainable food options. At the MEWA India 2025 conclave, she was recognised for showing that taste and eco-consciousness can coexist.
Bhagyashree : Everyday Habits That Matter
Bhagyashree, a wellness advocate, shared her sustainable lifestyle choices online ahead of World Environment Day. From using wooden toothbrushes and glass water bottles to growing vegetables with homemade compost, her post was a prompt for conversation. She asked her followers: "What is it that you do?"-inviting them into the dialogue, not preaching from a distance.
Dia Mirza : Urging Global Climate Action
As a UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador, Dia Mirza continues to raise awareness through both advocacy and example. She praised Professor Chetan Singh Solanki, also known as the Solar Man of India, for his Finite Earth Movement, which aims to unite one billion people to adopt sustainable lifestyles.
Referencing data from the Global Footprint Network, she reminded us that humanity is using resources 1.7 times faster than Earth can regenerate-and that must change.he frequently partners with UNEP campaigns on clean seas and wildlife conservation.
Dia also joined a beach-cleanup in the Andaman Islands to remove ghost nets and plastic waste threatening sea turtles. She also serves on the advisory board of an NGO working to restore mangrove corridors along India's east coast-efforts that bolster coastal resilience against storms.
A Common Thread : Making Better Choices, Together
From reducing single-use plastic to embracing plant-based diets and eco-friendly fashion, these celebrities show that change is all about making smarter decisions, consistently. Whether it's a wooden toothbrush or a zero-plastic skincare routine, what matters is that the change begins and keeps going.
This June 5 : A Chance to Reconsider, Reuse, Rethink
World Environment Day isn't about doing something extraordinary for one day-it's a chance to reset. The stories of these public figures serve as proof that change is already underway. Their actions aren't about being perfect; they're about being aware. So the question isn't what the world can do. It's what can you start doing today?
