As a young actress, rejected the glamorous look of stars from previous eras. However the studios of her times were all strict. Therefore under contract, she had to conform to their rigid looks and dress code.

Joan said that eventually she embraced her new image and grew to love spending hours making herself beautiful. The glamour became a second nature. After six years under contract and 10 movies, she began to enjoy it!
