On Monday, June, 05, 06, Fardeen's request to amend the charge against him in the case of possessing cocaine was turned down by the court.

Subsequently, the trial will now begin and if found guilty, the actor could be arrested. It being a non-bailable offence, the actor could find himself locked up for six months.

Soon after, rumours of Natasha about being ill, began circulating. As Fardeen was out of the country, we spoke to the people close to the actor about Natasha's health and the rumours of Khan's arrest.

Mayur Madhvani
Fardeen's father-in-law's office (London)
A lady (without giving her name) from Natasha's father, Mayur Madhvani's London office, however, said, "I can't disclose whether Natasha is at the moment.

All I can tell you is that she is traveling and not in Mumbai at present."

Feroz Khan
(Fardeen's father)
"There is no chance of Fardeen being arrested. It's a bullshit report. The case is dead and buried and as good as finished. I don't fear Fardeen being arrested just because his petition has been rejected. All I will say is that whatever rumours that are going around about Fardeen being arrested again are a whole lot of crap. The media are not aware of Fardeen's case history. Right now, I am too busy with recording the songs of my next film and wouldn't like to comment on anything else. Please spare me from this agony.

Ram Kumar Tiwari
(Fardeen's business manager)
"I am in Pune right now and have no knowledge about Natasha being admitted to hospital. But it can't be true or I would have known. I only have knowledge about Fardeen being in Kenya right now location hunting for Feroz Khan's next home production. He left four days ago and should be back by tonight. I am not aware whether Natasha accompanied him to Kenya or not. As far as his being re-arrested is concerned, there is no question of it."

Akbar Khan
(Fardeen's uncle)
"I am not aware of Natasha's hospitalisation or any such news. It's coming as a shock to me as I have been traveling and just got back yesterday. I am very concerned now that you have told me. I haven't seen the newspapers. All I will say is that Fardeen is an honest and upright young man, who has given all the information required at that time. He is in total control of the situation and in sound legal hands. The law will take its course."

Aiyaz Khan
(Fardeen's lawyer)
"You can't get arrested because your petition's been rejected. All these rumours are nonsense! Fardeen had asked a single question: to specify the charges against him. What are the charges levied against him for what and what quantity has he been charged with - is all that he asked and the court has rejected that application.

One gram is the amount attributed to Fardeen and Nasir Abdul Karim Khan had nine grams on him when he was apprehended. At present, Fardeen is out of town and I am waiting for him to come back after which we will decided about filing a fresh application to a higher court."

What happened?
Fardeen Khan was arrested in 1991 for buying cocaine from drug peddler and co-accused Nasir Abdul Karim Khan. The charge sheet filed by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) alleged that nine grams of the drug were seized from the duo.

Possession of one gram of the drug attracts a six-month jail term, while two grams or more can mean 10-year rigourous imprisonment under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Punishment varies according to the quantum of drug found on the accused. In case of cocaine, if the quantity is two grams or less, it is six-month imprisonment. But if the quantity is above two grams, imprisonment can range from 10 to 20 years.
