Goa government
Panaji, Oct 26 (UNI) Goa government is toying with the idea of acquiring the properties owned by Non-Resident Goans for renting them to tourists or 'close-auctioning' them among heirs to avoid mischievous elemements grabbing them.
Disclosing this to media persons after launching a website 'www.globalgoans.org.in' providing a comunication channel between the office of the Commissioner for NRI Affairs and the Goan diaspora, State Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane said he would raise the issue during the three-day Global Goans Conventions beginning here on January three before taking a final decision.
''If necessary, law would be suitably amended for the purpose.
The revenue generated out of leasing of the properties would be shared among the owners after deducting the expenditure incurred on their maintenance.
He also assured the Commissioner for NRI Affairs Eduardo Faleiro that the government would examine the proposal to amend the law providing for ''summary trial'' of property related cases of the Non-Resident Goans at the earliest to facilitate quick disposal of the cases in Goa.
Referring to the Global Goans convention, Mr Faleiro later told media persons the Chief Minister would inaugurate the event in which ambassadors accredited to countries with a substantial number of Goan emigrants, besides ambassadors in India of some such countries will participate.
