'Air Supply' to rock Shillong
International rock band 'Air Supply' will perform in Shillong on May 14 as part of its India tour apart from live performances in New Delhi and Bangalore.
The capital of Meghalaya, known for its passion for Western music, has emerged as a 'hot' destination for international music bands with recent performances by 'Petra', 'Fire House' and 'Michael Learns to Rock' (MLTR).
''We are finally going to tour India. All that wonderful food and fantastic people, I cannot wait,'' said English vocalist and guitarist of the band Graham Russel on their official website.
Australian Russel Hitchcok was the leading vocalist of the two-member band.
Before moving to Shillong, the band would perform in New Delhi on May 11 and May 12 in Bangalore.
The show in Shillong, organised by Mumbai-based event management group Planman Life and Speedstakes of Shillong Chapter, would be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The band promised to belt out an array of old and new numbers during its performances this season.
''Those, who have not seen the new show this year, are going to love it, new songs and a couple of old ones from way back when,'' said Graham.
Following the performances in India, the band will launch its new album 'The Singer and the Song' at a show in Hong Kong on May 20.
''For all the fans in Hong Kong, we are doing an acoustic performance to launch 'The Singer and the Song'. That will be one of a kind,'' said the singer.
Soon after its formation in May 1975, 'Air Supply' took the English-speaking world by storm in the late 1970s and the early 1980s with a succession of soft-rock ballad hits.
They released their first album 'Air Supply' in 1976 that reached Gold status of popularity in Australia. Other albums to follow included "Love & Other Bruises" (1977), "Life Support" (1979) and "Lost in Love" (1980).
Their recent records include "The Book of Love" (1997), "Yours Truly" (2001), "Across the Concrete Sky" (2003) and "It Was 30 Years Ago Today" (2005).
