Refined flour or Maida is a common ingredient in Indian kitchens. Pooris or naanmade from it are often relished ona Sunday breakfast or at otheroccasions. But howhealthy is refined flour for our health,even if it gives the food a fine texture?
Eating maida frequently makes your health susceptible to a lot ofilleffects. Maida is of little food value,asit has no fibreand contains a bleaching agent called benzoyl peroxide,which gives the flour the white colour and smooth texture.
Maida also is a high-glycaemic index food,which is also not good for our health.So, here are 5 health disorders that are associated with the consumption of maida regularly:

1. Harms Digestive System:
Oncewhite flour was used more as a glue and,today, we use it as a food item! It means by eating too much maida, we are actually congesting the digestive system and that disrupts the metabolism, giving rise to other problems like headache and migraine. The lack of fibrealso makes overly starchy food difficult to digest. As a result, the normal bowel movement getsdisrupted.

2. Blood Sugar Hazard And Obesity:
The more refined our foodis, the more insulin is required to manage it. Insulin is a hormone which promotes the storage of fat and thatleads to rapid weight gain and elevated triglyceride levels, leading to heart disorder. The pancreas also comes under pressure because of daily consumption of refined wheat,which raises the sugar level because of its high GI level. Gradually, the production of insulin stops and that gives way to diabetes. Besides, too much of flour intake puts stress on the adrenals, weakening them, ultimately taking a toll on the body's immunity.

3. It Is Acidic:
Eating too much white flour also causes acidity and too much acidity leads to chronic inflammation and other ailments. Fruits and vegetables are better options to maintain an alkaline balance and enjoy better health.

4. Causes Allergy:
White flour or maida comes from a hybrid seed and is grown with chemicals. That is,it lacks any natural ingredient and eating such food regularly can give rise toallergies of various types in the long run. When such allergy is diagnosed, it might be too hard to find the reasons that have caused it. Gluten in wheat also causes celiac disease.

5. Can Cause Chronic Disease:
Excessive eating of refined carbohydrate can cause inflammation in the body. Foods that include sugar and white flour boost the blood sugar level and even a slight rise in blood sugar level can cause inflammation. In the long run, diseases related to the heart, eyes, brain, skin, etc.,can result because of overconsumption of white flour.
