Beat Sleeplessness With These Tricks

By Tara Hari

In these hectic times, it is wonder if anybody catches full 8 hours of sleep. Sleepless nights are becoming more and more frequent. Most people have trouble sleeping and lie awake, just to doze off at work or college the next day.

Stress, anxiety, important decisions, too much caffeine or nicotine before bed- these are the most frequent reasons for insomnia. Everybody needs a full nights sleep to wake up rejuvenated, refreshed and ready for the challenges life throws at you. Here are some effective points using which you can beat insomnia or sleepless nights.

Practice Consistency
It will be hard to go to bed and wake up at the same time on a regular basis. But that does not mean we should not try. Keeping a consistent bed time is an excellent way to program your body to take rest at a specified time. Sleeping at will and staying in bed late during weekends will throw off the body's "natural clock".

Drown Noises
Nobody is lucky enough to fall asleep in complete silence. There will be a number of distracting noises like the barking dogs, vehicles on the road, neighbour's television or loudspeakers. You will have to learn to tune them out. An easier solution will be to put on your earphones and play soothing music that lulls you to deep sleep.

Bedtime Habits
Make sure you do not drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes at least one and a half hours before bed. Avoid caffeinated drinks at least 3 hours before your bedtime. Also make sure you do not do any vigorous exercises that will make you sweat 2 hours before you go to sleep. Avoid eating food, especially fried or sugary snacks, right before bedtime.

Warm Shower
Taking a warm shower right before you sleep is an excellent way to relax and de-stress your body. You will be out like a bulb the minute your head hits the pillow.

Call of Nature
The most annoying feeling in the world is feeling the urge to pee right before you drift off to sleep. Limit your liquid intake at least an hour before bed and use the toilet right before you sleep.

Open Windows
It is hard to sleep in a stuffy room with closed windows. An easy way to fall asleep is to open the windows and let the gentle night breeze in. This will soothe you and you will be asleep in no time.

Exercise
If you break into a sweat everyday, pushing your body to its limit, you will be exhausted to the bone. All you can do after a vigorous bout at the gym is to come home and crash. You will have no time to worry about your problems or lose sleep over minor issues.
