Do You Get Bruises Easily? Here Are The Main Reasons Why You Get Bruised Easily
Are you wondering how you bruise yourself so easily, which seems to appear for no reason? It is common for some individuals to bruise more easily than others, and the bruising may take a longer time to heal.
Unexplained bruises can occur for a variety of reasons.
In this article, we have discussed some of the reasons for bruises.

What Causes Bruising?
Bruises are reddish purple-colour injury marks on the skin caused by damage to the blood vessels in the skin. When a bruise fades, it becomes green and brown in colour, as the body metabolises the blood cells in the injured area of the skin [1].
It is natural for your body to respond to trauma by forming blood clots to stop bleeding, which prevents bruises. However, sometimes your blood is unable to form blood clots as it should, resulting in bruises [2].
Bruising is more common among older adults [3].
In most cases, bruises are not serious; however, some people tend to get them easily.
Find out what causes you to bruise easily.
Reasons Why You Get Bruised Easily
1. Ageing
The collagen production of the skin decreases as we age, as well as the fatty layer that protects the skin. After the age of 60, bruises may occur due to even a slight pressure on the skin. This is because the skin becomes thinner, drier, and less elastic as we age [4].
As a result, the skin is more easily damaged and bruises may appear after small traumas that would not have caused bruising in younger people.
2. Diabetes
One of the most common causes of unexplained bruises is internal capillary bleeding caused by weakened blood vessels, skin, and nerves. This is a common occurrence in people with diabetes [5].
3. Purpuric dermatosis
This type of skin condition occurs when blood leaks from small vessels, resulting in thousands of tiny purple bruises. In severe cases, it may cause itching. The use of sunscreens or medicinal creams can alleviate this condition.

4. Vitamin C deficiency
As a vital component of wound healing and collagen formation, vitamin C deficiency results in ruptures of small blood vessels, resulting in bruises. Vitamin C deficiency can also be one of the main causes of frequent bruises [6].
5. Blood disorder
The blood does not clot easily in haemophilia and there is excessive bleeding. You must consult a doctor if you notice frequent bruises or unexplained bruises. In the event that you notice frequent bruises, you should consult your doctor.
6. Medication
The use of some medications could also be a reason for your unexplained bruise. Some medications, including aspirin, contraceptives, steroids, and the like, when taken in excess may frequently result in unexplained bruises [7].
How To Treat Bruises?
A bruise is a result of some degree of injury to the blood vessels in the skin and a result of an insignificant compression of the skin. Sometimes there may be no skin injury or compression, yet a bruise may appear.
As soon as possible after the injury, elevate the bruised area above heart level. Apply an ice pack wrapped in a thin towel. Leave it on for 20 minutes. Repeat several times over the next few days [8].

On A Final Note...
While bruising is normally okay, regular bruising may be indicative of a serious underlying condition, such as blood clotting disorders or blood disorders. If you frequently have large bruises, especially if they appear on your trunk, back, or face, or seem to develop for no apparent reason, consult your healthcare provider.
