How To Prevent Eye Burns & Itch In Summer
If you have been suffering from burning and itching of eyes during the summers, then you need to check out these ways to prevent the problem. These work effectively.
"The eyes are the mirror of the soul and reflect everything that seems to be hidden; and like a mirror, they also reflect the person looking into them." - Paulo Coelho.
Not only are the eyes one of the most important sensory organs in our body but also a sparkling pair of eyes adds to the visual appeal of our face.
The scorching summers can however take a considerable toll on your eyes. Eye burns and itches are not very uncommon during the summers, specially in tropical countries like India. Meanwhile there are certain home remedies to cure itchy eyes. Click here for more.

During the summers people face various eye problems like conjunctivitis, eye allergy, dry eye and also they are subject to the adverse effect of UV rays.
Although each of these problems have different root causes, some generalizations may be drawn.
Some precautions may be taken so that we can prevent eye burns, itches and other related problems during the summer months.

1. Wear Sunglasses
This is almost obvious. A pair of sunglasses not only cuts out the sun rays but also adds to your style quotient. Moreover, one must make sure that the pair of shades he/she uses is able to cut out UV radiations. UV radiations are the cause of a plethora of health problems like cataract, retinal problems, eye burns, etc. If shades are not available, one may use a cap or a hat or any sort of headgear that could prevent direct exposure to sunlight.

2. Avoid Sunlight Periods
This is also pretty obvious. If you want to avoid the rays of the sun, it is best that you stay indoors during the peak afternoon period, that is, from 10 A.M to 2 P.M. This might need adjustment in your daily schedule but it pays dividends in the long run.

3. Avoid Crowded Places
Crowded places and physical contact are the number one cause of the onset of diseases like conjunctivitis (red eye) which is very common during the tropical summers.
Conjunctivitis is a condition which causes inflammation of the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is the thin clear tissue that lies over the white part of the eye and lines the inside of the eyelid. It is characterized by severe itching and irritation. It may be caused due to viral and bacterial infections.
Because such microbes spread actively via physical contact, one must make sure that physical contact and visits to crowded places is kept to a bare minimum.

4. Avoiding Allergy
In summers there are more pollen and dust in the atmosphere, which are potent allergens. However, some simple precautions can keep such allergies at bay.
One should wash his/her eyes with cold water to flush away allergens that may have come in contact with the eyes. Chlorine found in swimming pools is also an irritant. One must use protective shades while swimming.

5. Avoid Dry Eyes
The heat in summer may cause evaporation of fluids of the eyes. This will cause dry eyes and irritation; however, proper hydration will definitely help in easing this problem. Moreover, one can use lubricating eye drops and can ease this problem.

6. Contact Lenses
Wearing contact lenses during the summers can lead to further itchiness. One must therefore remove them after a few hours and wash them clean. If that is not feasible one should change them frequently to avoid the onset of irritation.

7. Nutrition
Nutrients and minerals go a long way in maintaining the proper health of the eyes and prevent irritations. Vitamin C, selenium, vitamin E, lutein, omega-3, zinc, zeaxanthin and beta carotene in particular help to reduce the risk of developing cataracts, macular degeneration and glaucoma.
So it is of vital importance that one adds these nutrients to his/her diet. Berries, brocolli, bellpeppers, avocados, sweet potatoes and carrots can help in bolstering the health of your eyes.

8. Visit The Ophthalmologist Once In A While
When in doubt let the expert have his or her say. An occasional visit to the opthalmologist won't burn a hole in your pocket. On the contrary it will ensure the proper health of your eyes. Moreover, one should avoid self medication by all means because it worsens problems rather than solving it.
