Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali takes great pride in making movies that are larger than life. From magnanimous movie sets, and epic storylines to inspirational fashion; the director par excellence always gets it right. The ace director is back with an all-new web series Heeramandi that will release soon on Netflix. The first look of the Heeramandi was showcased on February 18 and it is quintessential true SLB style! From the picture released, the key characters portrayed by talented stars including Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda sheikh make feisty, gutsy, and mesmerising courtesans!
Keep reading to know more about Heeramandi's leading ladies' epic style from another era:
The story of Heeramandi essentially depicts a story of courtesans and their patrons that sets against the volatile background of India's freedom struggle of the 1940s. Heeramandi was a dazzling district, sheltered courtesans who lived their lives tackling love, betrayal, politics, and succession in the kothas. From the first look of the series, it appears like SLB's signature style including larger-than-life stories, untold sagas, defining characters, and lingering music will be witnessed once more!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali shared, "Creative freedom and experimenting with new concepts are crucial to making lasting, memorable stories that transport audiences to new worlds. Netflix has been at the forefront of partnering with storytellers in creating breakthrough, iconic stories that have stood the test of time."
Heeramandi's teaser video showcases a closer look at the powerful star cast including Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh and Sonakshi Sinha. The actresses look alluring in mustard colour ensembles as they posed for the perfect picture. The series clip was shared with the caption, "Another time, another era, another magical world created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali we can't wait to be a part of. Here is a glimpse into the beautiful and intriguing world of #Heeramandi. Coming soon!"

The leading cast of the series is seen decked in quintessential Indian outfits including sarees, Anarkali suits, and lehengas. The intricate embroidery work on the outfits is the perfect example of Indian craftsmanship par excellence. Since courtesans used to be always well-dressed in intricate Indian-style jewellery, the Heeramandi ladies are also seen wearing some stunning jewellery and accessories.
To match the flowy, Indianized outfits, the actresses are seen sporting quintessential jadau jewellery pieces including choker neckpieces, pearl layered necklaces, maatha patti, pasa or jhumar, big nose rings, haath panja bracelets, jhumka earrings, chandbali earrings, and loads of bangles. Women in period eras used to take huge pride in owning such exquisite jewellery pieces and loved presenting themselves by decking up in the finest silks and jewels including courtesans!
Hair and makeup style in period dramas also had a peculiar outlook and the Heeramandi star cast nailed the same too. From eyes highlighted with dark kohl, and blushed cheeks, to brightened lips; the SLB perfection can be seen in each courtesan's look portrayed by these talented actresses. Speaking of hairdo, long wavy tresses only added to getting the courtesans to look right!
