The Annavaram Temple: Why Should You Do Satyanarayan Vrat Here?

Annavaram temple, located on a hillock named as Ratnagiri, in Kakinada Andhra Pradesh, is actually a temple of Lord Satyanarayana Swamy whose traditions are influenced by those of the Tirumala Tirupati devasthanams.

Also known as Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy Temple or Annavaram Temple, this is essentially a vaishnavaite temple which enjoys a second position only to the Tirumala Tirupati temple.

Revakhanda of Skandapuranam describes all about Lord as Satyadeva. About 300 ft above the sea level, The Ratnagiri hill is a sprawling expanse of greenery with the gushing streams of Pampa River around the hill.

You may have to climb up 460 stone steps to reach the temple. Performing the vrat in the premises of this temple is believed to surely give 100 percent results.

It also fulfils all the wishes of devotees as the archa vigraha or the worshipped idol is far more powerful here than at homes as it is installed with special pujas and gets worshipped in a detailed manner daily as per the tradition.

Hence naturally it has acquired tremendous grace of God over the centuries. Essentially a Dravidian construction by Raja Ramanarayana, then by two estates. In a dream, Lord is believed to have appeared before the Raja and instructed to build the temple.

As per the dream he searched the hill, retrieve the idol, installed it in a spot and then constructed the temple. It was renovated twice later. The secret passages in the hills were used by Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara empire to ambush the enemy at these spots during the war of kalinga. used the secret underground passages in the hills to attack the enemy during his invasion of Kalinga. lluri Seetharama Raju stayed in the secret hideouts here, during his tiffs with the British. The temple is itself in the form of a chariot with four wheels. Kalyana mantapa, is built in the modern architectural style.while Veera Venkata is the name given to Satyanarayan his consort is called by the name of Ananta Lakshmi Satyavathi Devi.

Legends: Meru parvat and his wife Menaka, due to great penance, bore two children, namely Bhadra and ratnakara. Bhadra, performed penance and turned into bhadrachalam, the abode of Lord Rama. Ratnakara became Ratnagiri hillock that housed the temple of Satyanarayana.

The first floor of the temple has the yantra and peetham of the lord, around the sides of which there are four deities, Ganesha, Surya, Tripurasundari and Maheshwara. The first floor has the Moola virat of the lord in the centre of the temple, and the image of his consort is on his right side and shiva towards his left.

Trimurti idol installed here, is at a massive height of 13 ft and draws a huge crowd everytime. The opening hours of the temple are between 6 am to 9 pm.

Festivals: Kalyanotsavam (April-May), Sri Rama Kalyanam, Devi Navratri, Kanakadurga yatra, Teppotsavam and Jwalatoranam.

The dress code here has been instructed by the temple authorities. Men must be in Panche, scarf or kurta pyjama and women should wear sarees and churidar is allowed.

'Sri Satya Narayana Vratham' is performed everywhere throughout India for the purposes of wealth, education and success.

The puja of Lord Satyanarayan really indicates that truth, if worshipped and protected, will save us during our bad times. Lord Vishnu will protect us from the bad mad world and just everthing that bothers us.

Srimathripathvibhuti Vykhunta Maha Narayana Yantra, has been installed in the Peetha which enriches it with the power to attract a number of devotees and wealth towards the temple. This unique yantra is found nowhere else.
