Legends
Before the creation of the universe, when the whole cosmos was veiled with darkness and only Kali Mata existed, a ray of light entered the universe and brightened it. The presiding deity for this ray was MahaTara Devi. She was named as Tara as she was born out of light.
Significance
Tara Devi is worshipped extensively by seekers annually on the Tara Jayanti in Gotegaon, India, Shridham Maa Tripurasundari Temple, in Jhoteshwar Ashram. Since the worship of Tara Devi includes tantric vidhis and mantras it is not generally popular amongst all seekers.
Worshiping Tara Devi ji with prescribed vidhis bestows happiness and wealth in life. Tara Devi is also known as Tarini Devi, Neela Saraswati, and Ugra Tara. These forms are worshiped with the purpose of destruction of enemies.
