Soundarya Lahari Shloka 3: Benefits And Sadhana Method

Soundarya lahari means waves of beauty; there are two parts to it, the Ananda lahari which comprises of the first 41 stanzas and the remaining 59 stanzas are together referred to as Soundarya Lahari, the 103 verses in the Soundarya Lahari, praise the beauty and glory of the Goddess Parvati. Those seeking materialistic prosperity get what material luxuries and those wanting liberation, she offers them just that.

For those wanting knowledge, she makes them spiritually adept. These verses predominate the world of mantra literature. By appropriately worshipping the Goddess in the prescribed way, one is sure to attain what he wills and wishes. They steady your mind, improve your focus and will power. If you are not initiated, then chant it at least for 11 times or maximum 108 times daily. Ideal time to recite these verses is during Navratri.

Avidyanam antas-timira-mihira-dweepa-nagari
Jadanam chaitanya-stabaka-makaranda-shruti jhari |
Daridranam chinta-mani-gunanika janma-jaladhau
Nimaghanam damshtra mura-ripu-varahasya bhavati||

Meaning:

Shridevi! The dust of your lotus feet , like the sun, removes the darkness of ignorance the nectar of intelligence gushes forth from the flower clusters on the dimwits, the necklace with wish fulfilling gems for the poor. It is the tusk of the Varaha, the cosmic boar, and uplifts the people immersed in samsara or the birth and death cycle

Sadhana Rituals

The sadhana procedure according to scriptures and gurus instgructions will be different from each other. Here is a scriptural procedure explained for your benefit. Get instructions from a Guru if you have one, for initiating to this sloka.

a) Be seated facing North East.

b) Place the gold plated yantra on which third sloka is inscribed.

c) Cleanse the puja area with gangajal mixed with clean pure water.

d) Have Sri yantra, mother Lalita photo and third sloka yantra right before you.

e) Light a diya and offer red, white, and yellow flowers on yantra and Goddess' image. Chant Lalitha Trishathi offering these flowers.

f) For gaining knowledge of vedas, you have to make sankalpas for 54 days. For wealth, you need to make 15 days of sankalpa.

g) Chant 2000 times for 54 days, the third sloka.If you are making a 15 day sankalpa along with chanting, then reduce the number of chants from 2000 to 1000 every day.

h) Every day towards the end of the puja offer the naivedya of cooked rice, black gram cakes, honey and betel nuts. Then for some time meditate on her form and then performing Mangal Aarti you can complete the day's puja.
