Significance Of The Threshold Or Door Sill In A House
A threshold indicates a place which neither represents outside of the house or inside of the house. Threshold was where Lord Narasimha tore apart Hiranyakashipu. Scriptures say that god resides in this place and hence using it for doing mundane things means that you are being disrespectful to God.

Take another example. If you keep a Diya upon a wall, it gives light to both sides of the room and does not exactly shine both sides individually as it is kept exactly in the middle. Similarly, a threshold is an intersection and a meeting point of both inside as well as outside of the house. It is believed that any work undertaken at the threshold is equal to bringing negativity into the house. It is a place which Goddess Lakshmi inhabits and she enters your house crossing this threshold. Hence it is a sacred area the sanctity of which you should preserve. Doing something, while sitting on the threshold, is equal to inviting miseries.
1. Sitting Or Standing Upon The Threshold
Sitting and standing on the threshold is also prohibited as this will anger Goddess Lakshmi. In many houses, the threshold will not be there at all. Poverty descends on the house if this rule is flouted. Money gets squandered on many unnecessary expenses. Grief will gradually sink in to disturb the peace of its members.
2. Do Not Have Your Lunch In This Area
Do not sit or stand on the door sill or threshold while you eat your food. God stays in the middle point at the door sill and hence eating here would be disrespectful to God. This is something that is proscribed by the scriptures. Some build their kitchens next to the main door. Even here, this law applies and such a practice should not be followed.
3. Don't Cut Your Nails Here
Do not prune your nails standing on the threshold as it creates dearth for money in the house. Money may also be lost due to some reason or the other this way.
4. Do Not Leave Your Shoes And Slippers At This Point
Leaving shoes and slippers at the threshold or in front of it angers Lakshmi. Money gets spent till it leaves a hole in your pocket. Financial problems may arise due to this habit. Also do not consume meat in this area as it disturbs domestic peace and creates vastu defects in the house.
Doing the above mistakes on the threshold or even in front of the threshold or near it, brings the above problems for the house and the family members may undergo untold financial problems due to no mistake of theirs,
