Himachal is a holy abode of many powerful temples each having a age old mysterious history of its own.
During festive occasions, the fairs and festivals organized here, in these temples leave their unique imprint on the onlookers.

Nurpur Nagni Mata Temple is one of these sacred spots where snake, scorpion and poisonous bites are treated with the miraculous water from this temple mixed with some mud.

Popular Legend: There is a story behind how this temple emerged into existence. Once upon a time, a dense forest covered this entire area. There used to be earthen mounds on which people used to pour milk and water.

He was performing a Tapasya to Nagni Mata to rid him of leprosy. She appeared to him in a dream and showed him a stream of milk in the drain.
When he checked this the next morning, he saw that the drain had actually a milk stream in it. This today is the same stream of milk that is flowing along the temple.
Mother informed that he only had to drink that milk and apply the clay all over your body so that the leprosy gets cured. He did as he was told and it was cured.
The word soon spread and people started coming in hordes to cure their skin ailments. It is on record that lakhs of people with skin diseases have been cured.
There was a snake charmer who had visited here. He captured Nagni Ma stealthily and took her away in his box.
Mother appeared in the dream of the king and told him the story. The king retrieved her after the snake charmer handed her over to him.
Nagni mata is also known as Surasa mata. During fair, Nagni matas form is visible in the water stream, or in nearby places or in temple. Priests of 60 generations of Thakur Mehta families have worshipped the Mata so far.
late Dhaja Singh, who was the founder member and head of this temple committee, in 1971 arragned to have this water supplied to neighbouring villages. Even up to now there is no shortage of water.
Nagni mata is supposed to be an avatar of Manasi Mata. Nagni Mata temples soil is named as sugar. Devotees give milk, kheer, fruits, etc. dishes to Nagini Mata and worship her.
