Guru Ghasidas Jayanti is one of the significant days for people belonging to Chattisgarh. This year the festival will be observed on 18 December 2020. History
Guru Ghasidas was born on 18 December 1756 in Girodpuri, Chhattisgarh. Right from childhood days, he had to face a lot of discriminations and social inequality. It is because of these social injustice and discriminations that made him found the Satnami Community. The community was based on Satnam which means truth and equality. It is said that the teachings of Guru Ghasidas were somewhere similar to those in Sikkism. In order to spread his teachings, he travelled extensively throughout Chattisgarh.
Significance
- The observance of Guru Ghasidas Jayanti is considered to be one of the significant days since the 1800s in Chattisgarh.
- It is said that Guru Ghasidas came as a ray of hope in the lives of people who were going through various kinds of discriminations in the form of caste, religion, sex and other parameters.
- Guru Ghasidas tried his best to re-surrect the ill-society.
- His teachings proved to be a great help during those times in encouraging people towards leaving behind these discrimination parameters.
- He travelled in many remote areas of Chattisgarh to teach people about equality and justice.
- Even today people listen to the teachings of Guru Ghasidas.
