Dhari Devi Temple: This Guardian Deity Of Char Dham And Uttarakhand Who Is A Miracle By Herself

Uttarakhand is home to several mysterious temples with interesting mythological backgrounds. But Dhari Devi temple, is unique amongst them, for the reason that she is the guardian deity for the char dham and the entire stretch of uttarrakhand.

Dhari dham is also very popular and known even today, due to a recent mystical occurrence that baffled the common man as well. Located around 15 km away from Srinagar Garhwal, on the banks of the Alaknanda River, Dhari devis temple is considered to be one of the 108 shakti sthals.

Dhari Devi Temple

According to a legend, when Adi Shankaracharya visited this place, he rested for a while in this place and worshipped Dhari Devi. This points at the fact that this might have been a construction from Dwapar yuga. This sheds light on the period it originally belonged to.

The idol of Devi has upper and lower parts which are worshipped in two different temples. Dhari devi shrine has the torso of the goddess that is worshipped and Kalimath temple is where the lower half of the Devi is getting worshipped where she is represented as Maa Kali, who is the other half of Lord Shiva.

There are many unbelievable facts about her. Firstly. she is worshipped in a place where there is no rooftop. Secondly, she changes her appearance three times during the day. Her face has a young girlish appearance in the morning at 4.30, a middle-aged woman's appearance at 2.30 pm and an old lady's appearance at around 8 pm at night. We are strictly prohibited from capturing her photo through our camera lens.

Miracles:

Because of the Srinagar Hydel Project in the Alaknanda River, Dhari Devi Temple was relocated from its original site. A plan to build a dam for the Alakananda was proposed by the government and a survey was conducted. Despite the opposition from locals this plan was executed.

On the 15 June of 2013, the idol of Dhari Devi was removed from her original place but after the construction of the dam, the government, due to some reason or the other, had to shift the temple up to a few meters. The locals and residents unanimously felt that this decision would certainly lead to doom. As if to prove it right, the next day, there was a cloudburst and a flash flood in Uttarakhand that ruined the entire Kedarnath Dham.

When the protector and guardian angel of the Kedarnath and Uttarakhand is moved from the place, how will this place survive? The entire population of Uttarakhand got swept off in the flash floods. This flood destroyed five districts of Uttarakhand, and people were killed in bunches and properties were damaged beyond proportions.
