Bathing Tips For Premature Babies
Getting home your little bundle of joy is full of pleasure but along comes the responsibilities. And when the baby is premature the responsibilities increase in many folds. Tending to a premature child is full of challenges due to its early birth and weak health in the beginning. Everything right from their room to milk temperature has to be monitored very carefully without slightest of mistake. Getting to know the basic premature baby bathing tips is a boon as we can't be careless when it comes to such an important task of giving a bath? And while I was thinking about it, I came up with a few steps that might help.
Babies love to take a bath but it is up to the mother to decide when they need it. Water is extremely safe for babies and we need not worry.
Giving A Baby A Bath:Tips For New Parents
One of the basic tip for baby bath is to know if that baby needs a water bath or a sponge bath. In case the baby is unwell avoid giving him/her a bath and try sponge bath instead. Sponge bath is equally effective and safe. As per me the first step for me would be collecting the items together that one would require during and after the bathing process.

These would be:
- Towel
- Baby shampoo/ body-wash
- Cotton cloth/towel
- Another piece of cotton cloth for sponge bath
- Oils/ baby creams
- Baby powder
- Clothes

The next step would be preparing the water and the baby for a bath. The temperature of the water should be monitored closely, and should be moderately warm. Test the temperature of the water by putting some of it on your feet. When the temperature is right then, it’s the time to get the baby. Remove his clothes and get him to the bathroom. Sit down on a stool and place put your feet forward in a sliding position. Gently place the baby on your feet with him facing the bathroom and back on your feet. In-case of sponge bath wipe the baby gently with a moderately warm wet cloth. Follow these baby bath tips to make sure your baby is happy & refreshed.

So it’s time to start with the bath. Gently pour water onto the child and then apply soap/ wash on the child. Avoid using any cloth in application of body wash instead take some on your hand and gently rub it on the baby’s body. This is because the skin of a baby is so soft that it might get scratched with the cloth. Once the soap is properly applied use the water to clean it. Do not pour water on baby’s face directly, instead clean the baby’s face by taking some water in your hand and wiping it softly. And similarly try putting a hand on the baby’s forehead in umbrella position so as to avoid the water from head to go to the eyes.

Once the bath is complete use a soft cotton cloth/baby towel to gently dry the baby by patting softly, avoid rubbing the baby’s skin as it may get dry and scratched. Quickly apply body lotion/ oil and baby talc and dress the baby. Try keeping the room a little warm while following these steps as the baby otherwise might catch cold due to sudden draft.
