Side Effects Of Birth Control Loop
In the past, birth control and family planning was an unheard concept. But, today these two words have become a part of everybody’s life. Today, couples plan when to have a child and begin a family. We are also able to exercise some control over how many children to have.
These facts are due to the birth control techniques that are available today. Birth control techniques may be classified mainly into two - natural methods and artificial methods. Natural method of birth control involves charting a woman’s menstrual and ovulation cycle. People following this method refrain from having sex if the woman is fertile.
GETTING TUBES TIED: PROS & CONS
Artificial birth control involves taking birth control pills or inserting birth control loops inside the uterus, which will prevent the fertilisation of the female egg by the sperm. The use of condoms also falls under this method.
Here we are going to discuss about the birth control loop or intrauterine device (IUD) that helps in birth control. As in all techniques, it is not a fool-proof method, but has a very high success rate. Birth control loop after delivery or before has many disadvantages of which we must be aware.

Here are some side effects of the birth control loop process.
Menstrual problems:One of the most common side effects of birth control loop process is heavy menstruation. Sometimes, it can also cause irregular menstruation accompanied by prolonged cramps and abdominal pain.
Perforation: This side effect of birth control loop process usually occurs at the time of insertion. Here it perforates the uterus tissue leading to bleeding and other complications. Your doctor must be informed immediately if you suspect this.
Expulsion: If the loop is inserted right after child birth, you run a high risk of expelling the device from the uterus into the vagina in the first few months of usage. This is another side effect of birth control loop process.
Hormonal side effects: Birth control loop after delivery also causes hormonal side effects like nausea, mood swings, headaches and acne and breast tenderness. But usually these symptoms disappear after some months.
Ovarian cysts: Birth control loop after delivery also has a risk of causing ovarian cysts. This usually occurs when we are using birth control loops that use hormones like progesterone. These are usually noncancerous and will go away on their own.
Pelvic inflammatory disease: While inserting birth control loop after delivery, we are introducing a foreign body into our body. This can sometimes cause irritation as the body tries to reject the new object and cause pelvic inflammatory disease.
When it does not work: There are instances when birth control loop after delivery does not work and will lead to pregnancy. Even though this will not cause birth defects in the baby, the loop must be removed to avoid miscarriage and preterm birth.
Ectopic pregnancy: Another risk of birth control loop after delivery when it does not work is the possibility of ectopic pregnancy. This means that the baby, unable to go into the uterus will develop in the fallopian tubes.
Call your doctor: You need to call your doctor immediately if you experience excessive bleeding, fever and chills or vaginal discharge that smells bad. Always make sure that the loop is attached properly.
