Stress is something that affects every aspect of our lives. Sleep disorders are mostly a result of stress. Stress can literally wind up and cramp your muscles. Stress is the worst enemy of sleep. The more stressed you are, the lesser you sleep. And the more sleep deprived you are, the more your stress levels increase. So the bottom line remains that you need to sleep well at night. So how to sleep when you are stressed?
If stress is affecting your sleep, then there are some simple steps to help you out. You need to learn how to sleep even when your stress levels are high. There are many different ways to sleep. And how to sleep when stressed is a very special thing in order to survive in the corporate world. All jobs these days are stressful and you will have your personal issues to make things worse. And yet, you have to get your sleep as well. So you simply cannot allow stress to affect your sleep.
The key lies in accepting the fact that stress is a way of life. There is no reason you should not sleep because you are stressed. And then you can learn how to sleep when you are stressed. Here are a few simple steps that you need to follow in order to sleep well even when you are stressed.

Take A Shower
Taking a shower in cold or hot water has a profound emotional effect. It literally and metaphorically washes away all the stress in your body and mind.

Eat At Least 2 Hours Before Sleep
You need have your dinner at least 2 hours before you sleep. When you are stressed, you tend to eat in a hurry without chewing. And stress also leads to indigestion that can keep you awake. So eat well before bed time.

Television Is Not A Stressbuster
The television is not a stressbuster. In fact, it is a idiot box that is temporarily shutting your mind out to everything including sleep.

Talk To Someone
When you are stressed, it always helps to talk to someone especially a friend or your spouse. If you can just tell someone that you are stressed, you feel less burdened. Talk so someone you trust but never fight before bedtime as it ruins the quality of sleep.

Smell Some Fresh Air
Being cramped up in an air conditioned room all day can steal your sleep. So go out for a walk and breathe some fresh air. Fresh oxygen supply to your brain may just calm you down.

Eat What You Like
Most of us try to avoid extra calories these days. And losing weight is also a cause of stress. So, for once eat what you like and you will realise that even if your favourite food is not healthy, making your tummy happy can help you sleep.

Have A Beauty Regime
Many women wash their face, apply body lotion and comb their hair before hitting the bed. Having this regular beauty regime could help you to sleep. Even men can try it out.

Don’t Take Work To The Bedroom
Never bring your work to your bedroom. This is easier said than done but working in the bedroom has a psychological effect of stressing you out. Your bedroom is a sacred sanctuary of sleep that should not be evaded by work.

Prepare Yourself For Bed
You need to tell your brain that now you will hit the pillows and you need to sleep. Your body may be tired but you cannot sleep as your brain doesn't allow your body to relax. So dim the lights, stop what you are doing and concentrate on sleep.

Stop Checking The Time
You have to give yourself time to fall asleep. Every time you check the clock and realise that another 15 minutes of your precious sleep time is gone by, you will only get more tensed. So don't stare at the clock. Allow sleep to come to you on its own time.
