Exercises To Correct Hunched Shoulders

Rolled over, stooped and hunched shoulders are a very common problem nowadays. As our body is not designed to sit for long hours but to move, it starts expressing its discomfort in many ways. You slouch on your office desk; you walk with your shoulders bending forward or your gait changes.

Do you also have hunched shoulders and you really find it awful when it affects your overall personality? You don't look young anymore and your dresses look odd on you because of hunched shoulders? Let's not worry and try following exercises to get rid of hunched shoulders easily and completely.

Exercises To Correct Hunched Shoulders

Back Bound Hand Pose
This is a great pose to strengthen your hunched shoulders. Start this exercise with your arms bound behind the back. Hold your right elbow with the left hand and the left elbow with the right hand. Take deep breaths and lift your chest and shoulder blades down and back. Repeat it by grabbing your left elbow with your right hand this time.

Shoulder Rolls
Sit on the edge of a chair with your spine straight. Lift your shoulders forward, up and then backward. Do the same in the opposite direction; backward, up and then forward. It should feel like a circular motion. Repeat this exercise at least 5 times. You will definitely see your hunched shoulders getting the correct posture.

Standing Dumbbell Shoulder Rolls
Stand up tall with your spine straight and arms at your sides, holding a dumbbell in each hand. Roll your shoulders in circular motion in both the directions like you do in shoulder rolls. Repeat this exercise 5 to 10 times as per your capacity. Start with light weights and gradually increase the weights of dumbbells.

Doorway Chest Stretch
It is a wonderful way of improving your hunched shoulder. Stand at the corner of a wall or in a doorway facing perpendicular to wall. Place your right hand on the wall and bend forward. You will feel the stretch in your chest and shoulder. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat the exercise with the left hand.

Be Conscious of Your Posture
If you want to get rid of hunched shoulders problem, make sure you also be cautious of your posture when sitting or standing. Always sit and stand with your back straight. Especially during office hours, make sure you get up from your chair at least once every hour.

Use Proper Ergonomics At Work
As you have to sit on a chair for long hours in office. Make sure your chair and computer is rightly positioned. Your monitor should be placed at your arm's length and your forearms should form a 90 degree angle as you type and your legs also shout be at 90 degree angle as you sit.
