Can Unprotected Intercourse Cause Bacterial Vaginosis?
Even if your partner is healthy, not using a condom could still cause bacterial vaginosis, say researchers!
Unprotected intercourse may cause several problems like STI's but most of us never really know that it could also cause something as common as a vaginal infection.

Yes, bacterial vaginosis can also be caused by participating in intercourse without using a condom. As this condition is not labeled as a serious STI, many are not aware of the fact that unprotected intercourse could cause it.
Here are some facts about bacterial vaginosis.

Fact #1
Australian researchers have discovered the fact that two strains of vaginal bacteria may thrive more in women who don't use protection in the bed room. The names of the bacteria are Lactobacillus iners and Gardnerella vaginalis.

Making love to a new person may also up the risk of infection as it could alter the microbial equation in the lady parts.

The private parts have both good and bad bacteria. The good ones control the growth of the bad ones. That is how a balance is retained.
But if you are suffering from bacterial vaginosis, it is a sign that the balance of bacteria has been disturbed. Generally, it could occur soon after having unprotected act with a new person.

There is a bacterial strain known as L. Crispatus. Women with this strain are generally healthy as this strain is said to help in maintaining healthy pH levels in the vagina and also control the growth of harmful bacteria. But after ejaculation, the balance may get disturbed.

Some researchers suspect that the reasons could be the inflammatory response to the bacteria that comes with a man's private organs.

Men can take certain preventive measures by keeping their privates clean. Those who have foreskin may need to wash their organs after puling the skin back. This may reduce the bacteria that may cause the infection.
