Once your kids are out in the sun without any of these precautions, you can see some of the negative effects of the sun on them. You can find out the effects of sun through many of the symptoms.
Symptoms of Sun assails
- If your child feels dizzy, faints or gets a sudden headache while playing in the Sun, it may be due to dehydration or sunstroke.
- You have to take your child to partially cool places if they sweat under the sun.
- A rapid and shallow breath of your child may be an indication of sunstroke.
- You have to give immediate medical care for your child if they start vomiting and have muscle cramps.
- High body temperature of your child, typically 102 degrees F (38.9 degrees C) may be the indication of sunstroke.
- If your child's urine is dark, it is a sign that the body is dehydrated.
- Some children have sun burn over an area of three times the size of one of their own hands.
It is always advisable not to treat your kids yourselves, if they suffer form the hazards of sun. You have to seek an immediate help from your doctor. However for a short time you can soothe your child's ailments with the following methods
- If your child is sun burnt, cool the skin, but do not over chill the skin.
- In mild cases apply an 'after sun' or simple moisturizing cream.
- In severe cases apply hydrocortisone cream (0.5% or 1%). A painkiller such as soluble Aspirin or Paracetamol may also help.
- If itchiness is a problem, then an antihistamine/hayfever tablet will help.
You have to keep in mind that children always look up to you for medical assistance. By the time they realize the negative effects of sun exposure, it would have been too late for them to recover. You are giving them lifetime protection while saving them from the hazards of sun during their childhood days.
