The fusion rock band, Indian Ocean lost its voice when its lead singer, Asheem Chakravarty breathed his last on the Christmas day. On his way back from a world tour, he complained of chest pain at the Doha airport in Qatar and consequently suffered an heart attack in October this year. He was in coma for a brief period of time, after which he was brought to India and was slowly recovering.

His health condition deteriorated and succumbed to another cardiac arrest on December 25, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Sunita and 14 year old son, Ekansh.

The man with the golden voice, as his fans call him, quit a career in advertising to pursue his passion, played the tabla, tarang and other percussion instruments while also being a vocalist for the band.

Indian Ocean is a Delhi based contemporary fusion rock band. The band was formed by Susmit Sen and Asheem Chakravarty in 1990. Desert Rain was their first album followed by Kandisa and Jhini. Amit Kilam and Rahul Ram are other and equally talented members of the band.

The band members are yet to overcome the loss of their voice and sadly admit that nobody can replace Asheem.
