Infotainment launches SR Plus

Chennai: (UNI) SR plus Infotainment Channel, a division of television Malaysia Sdn Bhd-(Malaysia) and SR Plus Infortainment (India) has launched the SR Plus - the first interactive Infotainment Satellite Channel- in association with 3G Digital Solutions Inc, a leading MNC on technology solutions.

Talking to newspersons after the launch last night, Nag Ravi, Chief Operating Officer of the channel said that it was their second channel.

He said the new channel was 100 per cent interactive, and would deliver the content, using the satellite technology (KU Band) for downlinking the signals and the interactive (return path) portion would be covered, using either the mobile phone (SMS) or #G/GPRS/EDGE , or dial-up telephone and a simple broadband.

Mr Ravi said the channel would offer better visuals, the top regional flash news, entertainment, and sports network simultaneously in one channel through minimised windows. The viewers can select any window to watch any programme on full screen.

He said it would also enable the viewers to check the latest news, weather and entertainment, investment portfolio, games, karaoke, and pay only on the actual usage basis.

Besides these facilities, the new service would also assist the viewers to pay the utility bills, purchase mobile phone prepaid cards, mobile banking, satellite shopping , e-mail browsing, stock trading and watch movie-on-demand, among others, he said.

Mr Ravi said SR Plus set top box comes with 90 hrs high definition video recording facility using 4:4:4 digital standards. He said we could record our favourite programmes from Live TV or using movie on demand or music on demand by using store and play mode. He said the set top box was designed to carry it comfortably to office or any location to view the off-line video, using TV or computer screen.

There will be a mail box icon for e-mail, with the option of reading and replying, while watching TV. The price of the set top box, ranged from Rs 1999 onwards, he added.

Mr Ravi said the new channel customers could chat at real time through a separate window one-to-one, or with the close-user group, while watching TV.

He said it also customised window options to choose the screen of our choice.

Regional information like flash news, weather reports, available in Tamil, English, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Arabic, he added.

After launching the channel, popular film actor Kamal Hassan hailed the efforts of the company and said they are taking the younger generation into the technological advancement of the IT sector.

He said he would try to release his new movies directly through the channel, The channel, would be an instrument for knowledgeable persons, he added.

Mr Kamal Hassan released the first set top box, which was received by the writer and technical savvy, Sujatha.
