In India, there is no end to feast and celebration. Relatives come home, feast together and then there is a big mess for cleaning. It is extremely difficult for the working couple to hire a maid and get the work done due to their busy schedules and safety issues. After festivals like Ganesh chaturthi and Eid, it is all about cleaning up the dry flowers (pooja items) and dealing with the leftovers. All the electrical fittings need to be first secured in a safe place. Dump all the big trash in a waste bag and small trash in the bin.

The food leftovers need to be attended at first as they stale faster leading to a foul smell. Then comes the vessels, as more they are left unattended, the more difficult it comes to clean so soak them in a tub of hot water and soap.

Living / Pooja Room Cleaning After Feast -

  1. Flowers used for pooja and decoration need to be taken away as they attract mites and bugs. The oil remains in the diyas need to be cleaned with paper towels and then washed with soap. The pooja items need to be dusted well to remove kum kum and turmeric stains.
  2. The photos can be cleaned with cotton and colin. Mantaps and kalash can be easily sanitised with wet cloth (soaked in mild soap water). Sweeping and swobbing can tidy up the place quickly.

Dining Area Cleaning After Feast -

  1. The dining table cloth, the napkins, foot rugs can be washed in the machine. Dump all the table cutlery into the sink. Replace a temporary table cloth until the new one dries up.
  2. The food remains can be collected in a bin. For fresh oil stains on table cloth, add some talcum powder and then wash it with water. This stain removing tip works well on any cloth.
  3. Cutlery in the sink can be soaked and then be rinsed easily. Invert the washed vessel in a tub to drain the excess water. After a while arrange all the vessel in the usual place.

Kitchen Cleaning After Feast -

  1. All those leftovers that can be preserved for some more time can be stored in the refrigerator. Vegetable peels, slices and other bits can be used as manure for plants.
  2. Leftover bread slices can be toasted and made crumbs for further use. Chopped vegetables can be boiled and preserved in an air tight container.
  3. Club all the trash together in a big bag and leave it near the garbage. This is the simplest housekeeping method for a cleaner home after feast and celebration.
