1. Plantar Fasciitis:
So what causes pain in the heels? The most typical reason for heel pain is plantar fasciitis. If you press about one inch inside from the back of the heel on the underside of the foot and sense pain, it is likely plantar fasciitis.

2. Inflammation Of The Fascia:
It is due to the discomfort and inflammation of the fascia, which is the tight tissue on the underside of the foot that forms the arch. You might feel the pain in the first part of the morning before you get out of bed. Or you might first feel it when walking for long distances or standing for long periods.

3. New Footwear:
So if you have purchased a brand new footwear recently, look to that as a reason first. Many people attempt to place inserts or orthotics in the offending shoes, but that might not always work. If it does not work then you might make the plantar fasciitis worse.
There are heel exercises you may do, and supports you can wear. However, when the pain is caused by only one set of footwear, if you quit wearing it, the plantar fasciitis may get better.

4. Overweight:
You may also get heel pain if you are overweight. Excessive pressure on the heels causes heel pain. If you have flat feet or high arches, it can result in heel pain.

5. Achilles Tendonitis:
In case your heel pain is on the rear of the heel, it might be Achilles tendonitis or retrocalcaneal bursitis. Occasionally, people get pain in the ankle or calf because of the way they change their walk due to the pain in the heels.
Pain in the heels should not be ignored and should be treated at the earliest in order to prevent further complications and harm to other parts of the leg.
