Why You Must Fear Cervical Cancer?
Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that affects women. The cervix is the part of your body that is just below your abdomen. Cervical cancer is slowly overtaking breast cancer as the number one killer disease for women. There are many reasons behind the abnormally high mortality rate from this type of cancer.
The main reason to fear cervical cancer is that its symptoms are very difficult to detect. Moreover, cervical cancer is the only cancer that is caused by a virus. It spreads easily and affects many women.
Boldsky wants you to take care of yourself and that is why, we have put together a set of reasons why you should fear cervical cancer.

Menstrual Cramps: Something as common as severe menstrual cramps that we most often ignore is a symptom of cervical cancer. If you have always suffered from troublesome periods then it still can be ignored. But, if you have suddenly started getting cramps during your periods, then it could be an indication of cancer of the cervix.
Heavy Periods: Even heavy period or a little bit of spotting in between two menstrual cycles could be a symptom of cervical cancer. It is better to see your gynecologist if you are having uncontrollably heavy periods.
Caused By A Virus: In some ways, cervical cancer is like HIV. It is the only cancer caused by a virus and you can be exposed to this virus at any point of time in your life. If you have multiple sexual partners, you are at the high risk category for developing cervical cancer.
What can you do?
The Vaccine: There is a vaccine for cervical cancer but most women do not take it in their reproductive age (18 to 35) and thus, it does no good. If you are in this age group, you should take this vaccine for sure.
The Pap Smear Test: Any woman who is sexually active should take a pap smear test once a year. The pap smear test is done by taking a tissue sample from side of the vagina and making smear paper. This is the only conclusive test for cervical cancer. So, make sure you don't ignore this test.
Cervical cancer is curable if it is detected on time. But, most of the cases are diagnosed in the later stages. And prevention is always better than cure so get yourself vaccinated.
